Virginia weather diary 1900 August 14-1901 March 8.

The diary was probably kept at Kernstown, Va., near Winchester, and records the time, the temperature, the wind and the sky. There are occasional brief references to other events particularly the Galveston flood, and to local items of interest including the fall opening exercises at the Central Commercial College and studying typewriting there, band competition entered by the Charlie Rouss Fire Company and Union Cornet Band, a fire at the Winchester Dye Works, using a telephone for the first time in a call from Keckley's Mill to Kernstown, voting for the first time in the election of 1900 for McKinley and Roosevelt, visiting a local cave, and watching the arrival of the new century, a local farm destroyed by fire. The volume also contains a poem praising Gold Billy (McKinley) and mocking Silver Bill (Bryan).
